“Just finished the 'Optimizing Strength Ratios' course and all I can say is this course is a BEAST! Knowledge-bomb level 1,000!!!
This is the third online course/certification that I have completed from KILO. I feel this course specifically is the most in-depth and technically advanced of the three courses, and for good reason.
My advice is not to start with this course if you are new to the 'KILO world' unless, of course, you have a strong background coming from the PICP courses.
I would follow the progression of getting certified with the Online Program Design first, Online Periodization second, and then finally this course.
Otherwise, you may be lost! Just had to get that out the way.
The five biggest takeaways from this course for me were:
1) Every aspect of writing strength training programs needs to be evaluated. Leave nothing to guesswork.
2) How to analyze the limiting lifts of a trainee with actual data to reference in the form of percentages relative to 1RMs of key lifts for the upper and lower body.
3) Where and why to program special techniques (eccentric, isometric, or specialty implements) in the client's training program with the goal of getting stronger and improving the determined limiting lifts.
4) Exercise selection in the overall grand scheme of the 12-week macrocycle.
5) How some exercises would be more suited to the goal of improving strength than others, and specifically why.
If you are a good strength coach or personal trainer and you want to bring your business, your services, your client experience, and your income to the next level, it's courses such as this that will allow you to do so.
Highly recommended, however, I would place this course in a category tailored to more advanced coaches who have at least 3-5 years of experience working with a wide selection of clients (athletes, gen pop, etc.) and who understand to a high degree the basics of coaching the barbell lifts.
